Data Management Feedback - Mike Connelly

First of all thanks to Mike & team at TopTeks. Martin & Andy of YoYotta. With a really big thanks to Clive North for yet another fascinating workshop. As I started my apprenticeship in film, following the theory of Lens construction. Mechanical film transport systems. Emulsions, and more importantly the ART of framing. Lighting and where the point of focus should be. This places me and others with this background in Good-Stead for today's large sensor electronic cameras. The emulsion side of the theory, believe it or not has its similarities to the electronic way of image capture in terms of sensitivity, latitude and granular structure (Noise). I thought I had completed my training when I swapped to electronic/tape image capture, but it seems not. Codec's, Camera cards, transfer speeds, HDD, SSD, USB3, Thunderbolt and so on came along to even more confuse, but with the help from the likes of Ged & Perry (GTC members) combined with reading masses of technical data and tech reviews I'm eventually feeling very confident. As well as showing off a very nice system called YoYotta. Martin imparted a mass of technicalities that even my old brain was able to comprehend. And has added to the build-up of the new technicalities we are all going to need in our future repertoire. So my view of the workshop was that it was good for those with no knowledge and also confirmed some facts for those with a little knowledge. Showing of a nice piece of software and ancillary kit for in-the-field and post production piece of mind that your files could be read and would go to the place you wanted them to and that safety copies/back-up were secure. If you want something that fits into your camera bag. My Nexto handheld battery back-up device has been a very capable secure back-up system for P2 ( that's that Panasonic system everyone keeps missing out of their slides) SxS and CF cards. It also Verifies that everything on the camera card matches that on the copies. but you do have take it for granted that everything that should happen, has happened. The YoYotta system does the same plus a lot more and you can see it has happened. But it is a little less portable (Laptop. Card reader. HDD/SSD.) All the best. Mike Connelly.
