About Canon CN-E 35mm T1.5L

Intended for the working professional, whether on the move, in studio set-ups, or closed environments where space is at a premium, the Canon CN-E 35mm T1.5 L - EF Mount lens is designed for performance, offering a flattering wide-angle perspective with exceptional low-light capability. The CN-E35mm T1.5L F lens offers a compelling mix of exceptional 4K (4096x2160 pixels) optical performance along with widespread compatibility with cameras from industry-standard Super 35mm-equivalent bodies to 35mm full-frame, APS-H and APS-C sensor size models.

Thanks to its 4K optical ability, Canon's legendary EF mount and widespread camera compatibility, this lens will appeal to a wide range of demanding filmmakers looking for speed as well as lightness. From documentary and broadcast professionals to movie and commercial directors, this lens fits neatly into Canon's range of Cinema primes.

Compact, Lightweight 35mm Wide-Angle Lens

Compact and lightweight at just 1.1kg, this 35mm prime lens brings a natural perspective to wide-angle shots. It is also suitable for use in challenging shooting conditions thanks to a splashproof construction. For flexibility it can also be used with most standard movie industry accessories and matte boxes.

T1.5 Aperture

A maximum aperture of T1.5 provides outstanding speed for filming in low-light conditions. The large aperture also enables fine creative control over focusing and depth-of-field.

EF Mount Compatible

The Canon CN-E 35mm T1.5 L - EF Mount Digital Cine Prime Lens is designed for use on EF mount 35mm and Super 35mm cameras – perfect for Cinema EOS cameras as well as Canon EOS DSLRs. A contact on the EF mount facilitates communication between camera and lens for seamless operation.

Outstanding Optical Performane

The lens delivers exceptional 4K (4096x2160 pixels, compared to the 1920x1080 pixel count of Full HD), optical performance and enjoys compatibility with Super 35mm-equivalent cameras, full-frame, APS-C and APS-H cameras. Employing anomalous dispersion glass that helps reduce chromatic aberration, the CN-E35mm T1.5L F lens achieves high-resolution imaging from the centre of the frame right through to the outer edges.

Cinema User-Friendly Handling & Focus/IRIS Control

The Canon CN-E 35mm T1.5 L - EF Mount Digital Cine Prime Lens boasts a sturdy construction that’s capable in even the most demanding of productions. It features focus and iris markings that are engraved on angled surfaces for improved readability from behind the camera and carries the distinctive ‘resistance’ of cine lenses to offer outstanding manual control. The lens has a focus rotation of approximately 300 degrees to allow the most precise focusing performance.

Attractive Blurring

A carefully designed aperture diaphragm with 11 blades creates gentle, attractive blurring, or bokeh, for exceptional creative focus effects.

Industry-Standard Compatibility

This prime lens can be used with standard manual and electronic movie industry accessories, and other equipment such as matte boxes. Thanks to uniform gear positions and a front lens diameter matching the rest of Canon’s Cinema prime range, crews can quickly change lenses without adjusting rig setups.

Anomalous Dispersion Glass

To eliminate chromatic aberration the CN-E35mm T1.5L F lens employs anomalous dispersion (AD) glass. When light passes through a lens, it refracts (bends). It also breaks up into its constituent colours, just like light passing through a prism. The lower the refractive index of the lens material, the less it bends and the sharper it can be focused. Similarly, the lower the dispersion ratio, the less the light is broken up, which makes it easier to correct chromatic aberration. AD glass is similar to fluorite in that it features a low refractive index and low dispersion, performing significantly better than ordinary optical glass. AD glass has enabled Canon to provide lenses with superior performance at a lower cost.

Larger Aspherical Lenses

Within the optical construction of the lens, large aspherical elements are used to reduce distortion and deliver unrivalled optical performance. In the early days, all lenses were spherical – they are the easiest lens shapes to make, but are not best suited to rendering a sharp image as they cannot make parallel rays of light converge at the same point. This causes a problem called spherical aberration. Canon designers discovered that an aspherical (non-spherical) lens shape would eliminate these spherical aberrations, because the curvature of the lens could be used to converge the light rays to a single point.

Metric Version

This lens is normally supplied with Imperial (ft/ins) calibration. If you require Metric calibration, please contact us and we will be pleased to help.
