Day Three at NAB
NAB has been a bit quiet this year and Wednesday is quieter than the previous two days. The main technological advancements have been with signal transmission and what this means for some of the hardware already out. VR / 360 cameras are here to stay with many Broadcaster looking at additional online content. If you think of a "Making Of Programme" but you get to look around the set in VR, you can do this on a live set! Have a look at
Kandao the range of cameras we sell.
IP and 12G signal path is here which allows High data transfer down single cables which makes installation and hardware much more straight forward. As the manufacturers make more processor boxes handing UHD and even 8K will become much more straight forward.
The new cameras from Sony and Canon (
Z190,
Z280 and C700FF ) are worth looking at as they may ( or may not ) be significant in months to come. We have basic details on the website but will post some tests and overviews soon.
Lighting has advanced with LED technology especially colour science. Everybody is used to Arri's Sky Panel but now there are alternatives from Litepanels and Velvet at significantly different price points.
So in conclusion, not a lot new. I think Apple's new RAW formats will make high quality production much more accessible but there will still be a lot of post and grading to make it work. Most product lines have developed slightly rather than brand new models and big leaps forward so a comfortable year ahead without worrying about what you have, and what you don't!
