Today we’ve been looking at the Sony Venice with Version 2.0 firmware and particularly lens options using the E Mount.
With V2.0 Firmware the E Mount is fully functional and allows the same flexibility as it does with other cameras.
Canon L Series Lenses
These lenses have become commonplace in the Cameraman’s kit bag and they can be used on the Venice. L Series are full frame so by using the Standard Smart Adaptor ( no glass )your L series lenses with cover all the aspect ratios available on the Venice. The new wired LAN connection network function software will show the lens status on a connected laptop, i.e. Iris, Zoom & Focus position, plus the lens type and serial number. Metabones adaptors need to have the latest V58 Firmware to operate correctly. If using the camera in 4K Aspect Ratios a Speed Booster can be used to reduce the crop factor. Using Assignable buttons 1 & 2 on the camera allow control of the Iris.
Sony E Mount Lenses
These work fine throughout the Aspect Ratios and no need for an adaptor. Same LAN functionality as the Canons, plus if using the Powered Sony Zooms, you can control Focus, Zoom and Iris from a laptop. Assignable buttons 1 & 2 work the Iris.
Fujinon MK Zooms
The Fujinon Lightweight Zooms will only work on the 4K Aspect Ratios.
Canon CN-E Primes
Using the Metabones Standard Adaptor, the CN-E Primes cover all Aspect Ratios on the Venice. For some reason the Iris position doesn’t report correctly on the LAN network.
