PrimeLight Design VoxBox Pro MK3

The Cinematographer’s choice for down-the-lens interviews

Direct-to-camera eyeline has been a trusted interview technique for over two decades, and it remains one of the most effective ways to create genuine on-screen connection. The VoxBox Pro MK3 brings this classic approach into a refined, modern form, relied upon by cinematographers, documentary crews, broadcast teams, and content creators worldwide.

Building on the proven VoxBox design, the MK3 offers enhanced versatility, improved performance, and practical usability for today’s productions. From intimate interviews to presenter-led content and feature documentaries, it enables natural, consistent eye contact down the lens through a simple optical mirror system — requiring no power, electronics, or additional technology.

How does it work?

The VoxBox Pro creates its connection using physics, not tech. It attaches to the front of your camera and utilises a clever system of precision mirrors (a beamsplitter and a secondary mirror) to fold the line of sight.

This means you achieve the perfect shot with no AI tricks, no extra cameras, no tablets, and no technology that can fail.

  • The Subject: Looks directly into the lens but sees a clear reflection of the interviewer's face in the glass.
  • The Interviewer: Sits to the side of the camera and looks through a portal in the box to see the subject.
  • The Result: The subject feels like they are having a natural face-to-face conversation, but on film, they are staring perfectly into the lens — resulting in the authentic, confident eye contact that cinematic storytelling demands.

Seamless integration. Effortless setup.

The VoxBox Pro MK3 seamlessly integrates into any professional camera setup — no cumbersome baseplate or special hardware required. Its tool-free design allows setup in under two minutes, saving valuable time on set.

  • Standard Rail Mount: Easily attaches to existing 15mm rail bars like a matte box. Includes a rail block with height adjustment (rails not included). An optional 19mm rail block is available separately.

  • Light Stand Mount: Features a standard 3/8" threaded hole for grip accessories, plus a 16mm adapter for direct mounting to a light stand — ideal if rails are unavailable.

  • Four Interviewer Positions: Designed for real-world locations, including cramped offices or tight corners. With four possible interviewer positions, the unit adapts instantly. Solo shooters can conduct interviews while monitoring the camera directly.

New features:

Every element of the VoxBox Pro MK3 has been re-engineered based on real-world feedback from working cinematographers.

  • Wider Perspective: The redesigned system now supports wider lenses down to 28mm*, providing more environmental context. (*Tested with Sony G-Master 24-70mm on Sony FX9 full-frame 6K.)

  • Improved Handle and Rail Clearance: The updated housing resolves clearance conflicts with the Sony FX6 top handle and allows room for longer support rods, enabling seamless rigging.

  • Integral Filter Tray: Supports standard 4x4" and 4x5.65" PV filters. A dual-size filter tray is included, allowing ND, diffusion, or Soft FX filters to be used directly at the lens.

  • Teleprompter Ready: The included tablet holder clips on instantly, transforming the unit into a professional teleprompter. The mount is robust enough for larger devices, including the 13-inch iPad Pro.

Built for the Road

The VoxBox Pro MK3 ships in a rugged, IP67-rated hard case designed to withstand the demands of airline travel. A custom-cut high-density foam insert cradles each component to absorb impact and prevent movement. The beamsplitter glass remains securely fitted within the main unit, while the side mirror is stored separately in a dedicated recess in the case lid, ensuring both critical optical elements are fully protected during transport.
