ProRes RAW for Sony FX6 now available over HDMI with Ninja V and Ninja V+

Enabling recording in ProRes RAW over HDMI with the NINJA V/V+ on Sony’s FX3 has become very popular and well established in the filmmaker world. Until now Sony’s FX6 has only been able to record ProRes RAW externally over SDI.

Atomos are pleased to now be able to bring that same ProRes RAW over HDMI functionality to the Sony FX6 with the Ninja V and Ninja V+, facilitated by a Sony firmware update (V.2.00, available from end of January 2022) to the camera.

According to Red Shark News, the new update means that the FX6 will be the first camcorder to give users a choice between outputting a raw signal over SDI or HDMI according to needs.

Users can now choose between using HDMI recording up to 4.2K and up to 60fps or via SDI recording 4K up to 120fps on their NINJA V / V+ for ProRes RAW recording with the Sony FX6. The update successfully bridges the technology gap and provides a path for filmmakers to make the most of Sony’s Cinema Line Cameras. It takes advantage of the flexibility of the NINJA V and NINJA V+ and creates opportunities for filmmakers to mix and match ProRes RAW recording between different camera setups to meet the needs of any production.
