Get a Grip

The FX5 Base Kit creates a complete cage for the Sony FX5, providing plenty of rigging space without adding unnecessary bulk. Our Right Side Plate follows the contours of the camera for comfortable handheld operation while adding multiple 1/4"-20 accessory mounting points.

On the other side, the NATO Wing Grip sits slightly offset from the camera, making it comfortable for handheld shooting while maintaining easy access to the camera's inputs. It's also packed with both bolt-on and quick-release mounting options.

Easily Handled

While we offer our own range of robust Top Handles, we know many FX5 users prefer Sony's native XLR handle. That's why we designed the Floating Top Plate, allowing you to retain the original handle without sacrificing rigging options.

Once secured around the XLR handle, front and rear support posts stabilise the plate, keeping it secure even during demanding handheld or shaky-cam shooting.

Open Rigging

The FX5 Bottom Plate is designed with flexibility in mind. Twin mounting screws and anti-twist lips keep the camera securely aligned, while the integrated Arca-compatible dovetail allows fast mounting to a wide range of support systems.

Keep things lightweight by mounting directly to an Arca-compatible tripod, or integrate it into our OpenRig™ ecosystem when building a fully featured cinema setup.

Low-Profile

For a stripped-back configuration, the FX5 Base Kit helps keep your rig clean and compact. The Corner Top Plate provides the essentials, including a QD socket for straps and a Cold Shoe mount for a microphone, monitor, or on-camera light.

To keep your monitor connected, the included HDMI Clamp secures your cable and helps prevent accidental signal loss during shooting.

Seamless Shooting

Whether you're balancing the camera on a gimbal or building a fully equipped cinema rig, the FX5 Base Kit is designed to disappear into your workflow. The cage maintains excellent access to the camera's controls and ports, with dedicated cut-outs for dummy batteries, drop-in filter housings, and tidy cable routing.

Go Vertical

The Sony FX5's Open Gate sensor gives you the flexibility to shoot for almost any aspect ratio. When your project calls for vertical delivery, whether that's social content or a vertical drama, you can mount the camera vertically to maximise sensor resolution.

Pair it with our NATO Clamp for Vertical Shooting to reposition the Wing Grip and maintain comfortable handling in portrait orientation.

Compatibility

The Sony FX5 Base Kit is purpose-built exclusively for the Sony FX5, with dedicated mounting points designed specifically for the camera.

The Bottom Plate features an integrated Arca-compatible dovetail for use with compatible tripods and receivers. The Floating Top Plate requires the Sony FX5 XLR handle to be installed. Cameras fitted with the detachable EVF are not compatible with the Floating Top Plate, although the Corner Top Plate can still be used without issue.

Instructions/Assembly

The Sony FX5 Base Kit includes all required components and mounting screws. You'll need your own 2.5mm and 3mm hex keys for installation.

Bottom Plate to Camera

1. Align the two mounting screws with the threaded holes on the base of the FX5.
2. Tighten both screws securely using a 3mm hex key.

Corner Top Plate to Camera

1. Position the Corner Top Plate so the screws align with the threaded holes on the upper left of the FX5 body. The open end of the Cold Shoe should face forwards.
2. Tighten both screws using a 3mm hex key.

Top Plate to Camera

1. Loosen the XLR handle thumbscrews.
2. Slide the Top Plate into position at a slight angle so the thumbscrews engage with the plate's channels.
3. Tighten the thumbscrews, using a hex key for additional torque if required.

Side Plate to Camera

1. Align the lower screw with the threaded insert in the Bottom Plate and the upper screw with the mounting point on the camera body.
2. Tighten both using a 3mm hex key.

Wing Grip to Cage

1. Align the lower mounting screw with the forward mounting point on the Bottom Plate.
2. Tighten the screw using a 3mm hex key.
3. Align the upper mounting screw with the corresponding thread in the Top Plate.
4. Tighten securely using a 3mm hex key.

HDMI Clamp to Cage

1. Align the HDMI Clamp with the marked mounting point on the Corner Top Plate.
2. Insert the HDMI cable and position the clamp so the flat section of the connector sits flush against it.
3. Tighten the clamp to the Side Plate using a 2.5mm hex key.
4. Secure the cable by tightening the thumbscrew.
