The Sound Devices USBPre 2 is a compact, professional two-channel USB audio interface designed for high-quality recording and monitoring with Mac, Windows and Linux computers. Combining precision microphone preamplifiers, high-resolution 24-bit/192 kHz conversion and versatile analogue and digital connectivity, the USBPre 2 is equally suited to studio, broadcast and location production applications. Two discrete-transistor microphone preamplifiers deliver exceptionally clean, detailed audio, with support for sampling rates up to 192 kHz. The microphone inputs feature 48 V phantom power, peak limiters, high-pass filters and a 15 dB pad, providing flexibility and overload protection when working with a wide range of professional microphones and sources. The USBPre 2 offers extensive connectivity, including balanced XLR mic/line inputs and outputs, unbalanced RCA line-level connections, coaxial S/PDIF and optical TOSLINK S/PDIF. Dedicated front-panel output level control and a 23-segment multicolour LED meter provide precise monitoring and level management. For computer-based applications, the USBPre 2 provides simple plug-and-play USB connectivity without requiring additional drivers for standard operation. Windows users can achieve higher sample rates using the available ASIO driver. The USBPre 2 can also operate independently of a computer in Stand-Alone mode, functioning as a high-quality microphone preamplifier, A/D converter or D/A converter. This makes it particularly useful when an additional preamp or digital conversion is required in a production setup. The unit is USB bus powered, allowing it to remain compact and portable without requiring a dedicated power supply. Built for professional use, the USBPre 2 features a rugged extruded aluminium chassis, metal connectors, machined controls and laser-etched markings, making it well suited to demanding production environments.
